How To Automatically Login in Windows 10
Automatic Login in Windows 10 |
Some people are very upset by the fact that they are forced to always type their password on the Windows 10 login screen instead of booting directly to the desktop or start screen. And tell the truth, typing the code manually whenever the system starts is a reliable security measure, but not very convenient if your PC is at home or in a safe environment.
A while ago, we spoke about how after restarting the PC you could instantly reconnect to Windows 10, but this method works only for restarting operation. Nonetheless, any time the operating system begins, there's a way to instantly sign in to Windows 10 and we'll tell you how to do it in a second.
How to automatically login in Windows 10:
Obviously, once you set up Windows 10 to automatically sign in, no time will be lost to enter the password manually and the OS will boot faster to the desktop or Start Screen. In fact, you can use two methods (which don't rely on any third-party apps) and we're going to discuss both.
You should also be aware of the method described below that works for Microsoft and local user accounts, but it is recommended that you only enable automatic login if you do not share your PC with other users.
Automatically login in Windows 10 without password:
To open the Run dialog, click the Win Key + R keyboard shortcut. In the text box, write netplwiz and hit Enter.
This will open the window for user accounts. Tap on your user account, uncheck the box next to the "User name and password to use this device" option and tap "Login" to save the adjustments.
The verification dialog "Automatically sign in" should show. In the two dedicated fields, enter your password and click "OK."
Enable automatic sign-in in Windows 10 using the Registry
If the above solution is not effective, instead you can use this Registry modification. Click the Start icon and type without quotes "regedit." Click on the first result – the Registry Editor will be opened.
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Locate the "DefaultUserName" entry on the right pane and double-click it.
Make sure that the name of your specific user account and Windows account exists in the data field of interest.
You should then search for another entry, also in the right panel, called DefaultPassword. You'll need to build it if you don't have it (like I did). To do so, right-click on an empty area in the right pane and choose New-> String Number. Double-click and name it DefaultPassword on the newly created entry. Enter the code of your user account in the Quality data field and press OK.
Now that you have set the default user name and password to enable automatic login. Locate the AutoAdminLogon entry in the same panel and adjust its price to 1 and then press OK. You can now open the editor of the register.
You will be automatically logged in to the user you set as default the next time your system boots. No more manually punching the password!
